Mandi hasn’t been well just
lately since I apparently gave her my cold, although my cold seems to have
mutated into something much worse for her. If anyone ever tells me about how
men are no good at being poorly then I will invite them to observe the two of
us next time we get a cold. They can watch me carrying on with my work, walking
the dog and blotting things out with cold cure medication. Then it will be time
to watch Mandi acting as if she is the first person in the world to be poorly.
Neither of us wanted to go out
today, there was no real reason to go into town especially with Mandi being ill
and having just had Sky put in. I was awake reasonably early, about half ten,
and fed the pets and took Jack to the park for an hour. Spending the day in
front of the television seemed like the perfect way to spend a Saturday, but
then again I would have been really annoyed with myself for wasting the day in
that way when I am so far behind with my work. After a slow start to the day I
went up to my office and spent a few hours pounding my way through the list of
things that I should have done a while ago. I managed to get a few editions of The Sound of Nottingham UK uploaded to Mixcloud, caught up
with the blog for The Sunday Alternative and caught
up with that Mixcloud account. My email inboxes are in a terrible state so I
managed to work through and reply to every email in my public account (the
address that I tweet and have on this blog) and my personal one.
Days like this make me think
seriously about renting a proper office somewhere so that I can discipline myself
to go to work and focus. Working from home is all well and good; you don’t have
to get dressed, you can make tea and snacks whenever you like, and you can disappear
off to the shops without having to clear it with anyone. Those ‘pros’ do of
course also show up in the ‘cons’ list because if you behaved like this in a
place of work then you would be shown the door.
