Nothing out of the ordinary
happened on my way to ROFL Audio this week. The bus was on time so I didn’t
have that to moan about, and I had eaten before leaving the house so I didn’t
have my weekly headache of trying to work out which three items make up a meal
deal in a supermarket staffed by idiots. I therefore arrived at ROFL in a good
mood, which isn’t normal.
We were fairly short staffed
tonight as we didn’t have our usual team together. Joe was there to do the
sound, Dave (the owner) was there but that was it, we didn’t even have our
photographer Caz to document the occasion.
My guest this week (listen at
the weekend to The Sound Of Nottingham UK) was Steve McGill, possibly the guest that has served the longest
amount of time as a member of the so-called Nottingham music scene, (although
Lisa De Ville has been around a while according to our interview) and someone I
have always got on really well with. Aside from songwriting he is also a
producer, and is one of the few musicians who make a full time job of it. Most
of the live guests have day jobs to juggle with. I’m not sure I could be in a
band and do a day job, as I don’t know how my focus would behave.
Tonight’s session was over
with rather quickly, solo artists have a lot less pissballing about to do with
regards setting up and sound checking which is of course a bonus. Steve sang
four songs and talked passionately about his craft during the interview.
Off-mic I discovered that like the aforementioned Lisa De Ville, he has strong
opinions about the incestuous nature of certain pockets of the Nottingham music
scene, and it also turns out that we think the same people who think themselves
the big shots, are actually dicks.
Due to a mix up over diaries
and bookings, Steve will be appearing tomorrow on NottinghamLIVE. I am going to
jokingly say “long time no see” or something, because that’s comedy right?
