Today was one of those days
were I managed to achieve very little in a work sense, although I did manage to
clear up a few loose ends here and there. The first task was to check my
emails, as this is something I don’t do enough. My way of dealing with emails
is to check in the morning and reply to the really urgent ones and then leave
it alone once I’ve dealt with my outgoing mail. This means that people might
have to wait a little longer than they might like for my reply, (although
anything work related is read first so I don’t set out to ignore anyone), and
it has been known to annoy people. How on earth did these people cope when they
would have to wait for their message to come through that hole in the front
door and wait on the mat until I woke up? They would have to wait until I’d
read it and written a reply before walking to the letterbox and posting my
reply, (I always had stamps in) for it to land on their doormat the day after
that. People who check their emails during the day are spoilt by technology to
some degree, I’m sure they didn’t go to the front door every ten minutes hoping
for another message.
Most of the messages were
relating to The Sunday Alternative, which I have
held off from replying to simply because I am on a break from it. The songs I’ve
been sent will be downloaded and I’ll email my thanks to them; this will be
done in one blast.
I sorted the music for The Sound Of Nottingham UK, which wasn’t as easy as usual
because I didn’t have a live session this week due to illness (the guest not
me). My attempts to replace the session came to nothing this time, although I’m
not entirely surprised given the short notice I was asking. There are a few
bands that I am losing patience with as they only want to come on the radio
when they have something to sell. I try to reason that the show is a chance to
showcase the music of the city, and not a market stall to sell the latest
product, and that they should be glad to be asked. This usually falls on deaf
ears, which could be why the Nottingham music scene won’t break out of the city
in the way it deserves to. The scene is too insular and the attitude of various
members of it is holding them back, if only they could see the error of their
ways.
