Monday 25th November

I had written the release dates for the new series of Steve’s LP Box in my diary a while ago, and specifically wanted to do them in a certain order, especially as the first one was going to be The Velvet Underground and Nico. It had been written before the sad death of Lou Reed, so I thought it would be nice to kick off the final series with that as a tribute. However, best laid plans and all that shit. The series was also supposed to kick off on Friday but I forgot all about it due to other stuff going on and so episode one was released today. I have done Pearl Jam’s first album Ten as the first edition, simply because I haven’t recorded the Velvet Underground one yet. There’s also the small matter of the Christmas show to do yet, which isn’t even fully written. It would have been nice to have taken my foot off the brakes a little bit as we approach the festive season, but the more I realise what I have left to do this year, the more pressure I feel under. Although I’m not feeling particularly Christmassy yet, I am looking forward to all that time off work to charge my batteries and return to action on January 6th with a renewed vigor. In fact, I’ll be working over Christmas too as I have The Sunday Alternative Christmas show to broadcast live on December 22nd, and another show on the 29th. I hope to find the time to record both the Christmas and New Year editions of the American show before the holiday so that I’m not working too hard while all around me people are enjoying themselves. NottinghamLIVE goes out on Wednesday nights which means that we are scheduled to broadcast on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, so we have to find the time to get those shows pre-recorded (something we’ve never done before) as neither of us intend to work on two national days off.

I’m glad in a way that the proposed documentary film about The Sunday Alternative hasn’t gone ahead, as it would have added to the workload to try and have it ready for the free screening on Sunday December 22nd. As I now do the show at lunchtime (from this coming weekend) it might not have been possible to have booked the screening any way. Much better that I add it to the growing list of work that I have coming up in 2014, and hopefully have it ready for the third anniversary show next September. It all depends on raising the money though, as do all of the film projects.
