There is a part of my brain
that realises just how much work I have to do before the end of this year, (I am
hoping to give podcasting a rest next year to pursue other projects) and this occasionally
freaks me out. I have an inability to switch off, the evidence being the
Post-It notes (other sticky notes are available, although they aren’t as good
and usually lose their stick after a while) that adorn my office wall to the
right of my desk. With my huge workload in mind, it would be stupid and a bit
wreckless to think of something as outlandish as forming a band wouldn’t it?
That’s exactly what I thought, stupid. So I won’t even think about adding it to
my to-do list of projects, even though it would only be an occasional bit of
fun to do a few gigs with and not an actual full time commitment. The time
consumption of three radio shows a week on top of several audio book, podcast,
and musical commitments is immense; there are times when it feels like I will
never be able to have a proper rest from work. However, the more I thought
about it, the more the idea appealed to me. Before I knew what I was doing, I
had posted on Twitter and Facebook (remember Facebook? It’s making an
inexplicable comeback) in search of musicians. It didn’t take long for a couple
of interested parties to get in touch, and so wheels are in motion. I am a fool
to myself.
It didn’t take long to fill
the diary with bands willing to perform live sessions for The Sound of
Nottingham UK, with every Tuesday until the end of the year taken,
(apart from Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve of course, I’m not going to work
on those days). Things were a little rushed tonight as the band were a little
late arriving at the studio due to traffic, so there wasn’t a great deal of
time to chat between the session recording and the interview.
This week’s guests were Ruckus,
a band who have been together in their current lineup since the beginning of
2012 and sound fantastic. I’ve not actually seen them live yet but will make a
point of doing so. They were a friendly group with a sense of humour which
always helps, and they even played along with the deceptive system of doing the
songs before the interview by mentioning a song they were going to play later.
Brilliant. I’d like to get them in to play on NottinghamLIVE
at some point, possibly in the New Year when their EP comes out. Despite the
slight pressure on the band, and myself everything went smoothly in the end and
the first USA session with a full band went like a charm so I know that I can
do it. There are a few bands in the pipeline so I need to tighten up on their
arrival time so that they are ready to record at my allotted studio booking.
The session and interview can
be heard this weekend on The Sound of Nottingham UK
(the home of Robin Hood on Robin Hood Radio). Friday 11pm EST
Saturday 4am UK and Sunday 1pm EST and 6pm UK.
