I’ve been invited to go and
talk to BBC Radio Nottingham in the morning, about the campaign to save the
clock/water feature in Victoria Shopping Centre. As I have to be there by eight
o’clock tomorrow morning, I can’t imagine that I’ll get a great deal of sleep,
if any at all. In fact it would probably be easier to stay awake and go to bed
when I get home. Last night I sent an email to BBC Radio Nottingham, East Midlands Today (the BBC regional television news), Leftlion and The Nottingham Evening
Post (as I still call it), and the BBC were the only people who got
back to me.
Last night’s NottinghamLIVE was another one where we managed to pull a
replacement guest at the last minute. The Smears were due to come in to perform
for us and talk about their tenth anniversary gig this coming Friday, but the
drummer has a bad foot, presumably the one she plays bass drum with. I don’t
mind bands pulling out with some sort of warning, but it takes the piss when it
is the day before. Darren knew on Tuesday but as I haven’t had a phone for a
few days I hadn’t seen any messages. Our replacement was a talented guy called
Chris Turner, a friend of Joe the soundman who works the same open mic circuit.
Neither Darren nor I knew anything about him, as he isn’t what you’d call a
massive name. However, I suspect that he will go far and enable us the ‘first
radio session’ bragging rights sometime down the line. We are still proud and a
little amazed that we still have an unbroken chain of shows with a live
performance since we started doing the show in January. It is a pity that we no
longer have a camera crew to film these people but not the end of the world.

There will be a broadcast from
ROFL Audio this weekend, when Jason Loftus presents his show Nottingham L.A.C.E. from there. It is the first time this
will happen, as there is talk of moving Trent Sound down into the city.
Everybody thinks it a good idea, especially with regards getting live bands in.
Not that we generally have a problem, but it does mean that they could come in
before a gig to play a little warm up. The first move will be broadcasting the
shows that have a live music element, which at the moment is NottinghamLIVE and L.A.C.E. I do
want to get back into having a live act on The Sunday Alternative,
especially on the shows that I do alone.
I think it is fair to say that
both Darren and I are getting a little frustrated with things at Trent Sound,
although neither of us wants to quit the show. We’ve been ironing out little
problems and somehow these are turning into bigger problems. It has been agreed
that we will keep up to date with updating the show page on the Trent Sound
website, which is an area that we have both been slack. This seems to have
taken everyone’s mind off the fact that I work for another radio station in
another country.
