Sunday, 7 April 2013

Back to the Sunday routine, and it felt great. I was up early (for a Sunday anyway), and doing the radio admin and last minute plugging for the show. We never have breakfast on a Sunday for obvious reasons, but several cups of tea later and I was wide awake and looking forward to how Sunday was going to pan out.

As usual, we went to my dad's house for lunch. With memories of my digestive system and my radio adrenalin working against each other, I didn't help myself to second helpings of roast. Not that it made a difference of course. With the earlier start time, I didn't have a lot of time in the afternoon, and I did my usual restless pacing and clock watching. For a seven o'clock start, I arrived at the studio at half six and went straight to the toilet. I remember it well, and refer to it (to myself, in my head), as the 'radio dump'. Afterwards, I felt revitalised and raring to go. There was a mental picture in my head of the streets clearing while I was preparing the music and meeting the band.

There was only one song that I played that I had previously played on the old Sunday Alternative, and that was 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones. I played it as a tip of the hat to John Peel, who is the reason I do a show in this style. From now on I am going to try and never play the same song twice, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. I keep a log of every song that gets played on all the shows I do, in a series of notebooks, so it shouldn't be too hard.

There was a great response to the show, and I was, (and still am) full of adrenalin. I remember this feeling all too well, it'll be fucking hours before I'm asleep now. Family Guy and American Dad are set for later.

I'm back!
