I was informed by @fatdazza1966 that their website said that they weren't launching until April, when they were in fact meant to be launching properly this month. I hadn't bothered to check the website, (Sunday is a full day for me), but when I did I saw that they were not on air.
In order to keep The Sunday Alternative name alive in the meantime, I will be carrying on with the show as a podcast. Part of me was toying with the idea of ending the show to concentrate on The Sound Of Nottingham UK and The Maze podcast, but I have a lot of music sent my way and in addition to the classic music from my collection, I want to keep the show going as I'm very proud it.
I did offer the show to the Nottingham Internet station Radio Trent. Radio Trent is basically a tribute to the 'proper' Radio Trent of old, Nottingham's commercial radio station formed in 1975 and later to become Trent FM before homogenising into the bland, 'same six songs all day long' Capital FM. The founder of Radio Trent online, Jeff Cooper, turned down my offer of presenting The Sunday Alternative for them. At the moment, they are not operating as a 'proper' radio station; they are serving up pre-recorded content passed off as live radio. I heard on the grapevine that they are re-launching as a live, studio based radio station. There exists a bitter rivalry between Radio Trent and Trent Sound, where I used to work. It rankles with Cooper that Trent Sound is operating as a proper radio station, with live shows. Or at least some live shows, the last time I was aware, the daytime schedules were just playing 'jingles and jukebox', and aside from one live show a night, and three over the weekend, they are broadcasting syndicated shows and playlisted music. Not that I wish any ill will to Andy Lloyd, Trent Sound's owner, but I did point out what a scoop it would be for Radio Trent to start carrying The Sunday Alternative. Jeff Cooper replied with a snotty email which suggests that just because he doesn't share my taste in music, he doesn't want the show. Even after I pointed out what it might be worth in terms of free publicity, he wasn't interested. So if you want to listen to middle of the road music all day long, then I recommend Radio Trent.
