The Sun will be desperate to go with the headline 'Gary Twitter' tomorrow.
There has been a huge amount of hand wringing, along with a surprisingly equal amount of support, for the fact that Gary Glitter has apparently crawled out from under his stone by joining Twitter. He seems to have joined to promote a comeback album, tour and autobiography. This is either a very well executed hoax, or an amazing display of arrogance. I personally have my doubts, having been involved in a massive hoax myself*, that this is a genuine account.
*I was asked this evening if I was behind the Gary Glitter account, given that I made the world think that Adam West was spotted in Nottingham making the new Batman film. It isn't me.
The worrying thing however, is the amount of support that this affectation of Gary Glitter seems to be getting. The Glitter Twitter (sorry) has been retweeting messages of support for most of the day, from people who can't wait to hear the new album, or to see him on tour. Tweets regarding putting the past behind him were also quite prevalent, as if a back catalogue of dance floor pleasers is enough to make people forget that you're a paedophile.
Actually, it did work for Michael Jackson.
